The Clubhouse is one of those places that can be hit or miss — when it’s on, it’s a fun night out but when it’s off, you feel it. Walking in, the layout is straightforward: the bar stretches along the left, with plenty of tables and high-tops scattered around the middle. If you want reliable service, grabbing one of the tables is the safest bet.

The bar itself is inconsistent. Deep on the right-hand side, you’ll find the regulars holding court gathered around the pool table. The left side tends to be where everyone else sits, but if you end up tucked away in the far-left corner you’ll find yourself in a dead zone for the bartenders.

Food and drinks are standard tavern fare, with the pizza as a standout. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, which is refreshing for Newtown. It’s not the kind of place that caters to newcomers or polish but it does deliver a familiar neighborhood vibe when everything clicks.
